Laser hair removal

Excess body hair can be unsightly, difficult or inconvenient to remove, and grows back quickly. Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are all temporary methods that must be repeated on a regular basis. Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal is the only clinically proven treatment available for permanent hair removal.

At Laser Skin Solutions we use both a Laser and Intense Pulsed Light system for permanent hair removal, enabling us to treat all skin types. Your skin is safe in our hands.

Laser hair removal is ideal for men and women treating the following areas:

 Abdomen Feet
 Arms Hands
 Back Head
 Buttocks Legs
 Bikini Line
Neck
 Chest Underarms
 Face

We are very excited to announce that Laser hair removal in Bournemouth has now got even better. Laser Skin Solutions is one of the few clinics using the Lynton Lumina 650 advance handpiece that delivers outstanding results in fewer sessions than ever before. When looking for laser hair removal in Bournemouth always be sure to check which Laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system is being used. We use a medical grade laser and we are registered with the Care Quality Commission (previously the Healthcare Commission)

For a detailed explanation of how the Mosaic fractional laser treatment works, please take a look at the following video. Despite the cartoon-like beginning, the video provides an straight forward explanation of how fraxel or pixel laser works.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

A short burst of light is fired at the skin's surface. Light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft, where it heats and destroys the hair. If the hair is in the growth stage (anagen), the heat is transmitted down the hair shaft to the base of the follicle and to the germ cells lining the follicle shaft, causing their destruction.

Why is it necessary to have more than one laser hair removal treatment?

Because the hair must be lasered whilst in the ‘anagen’ (active) growth stage. All hairs grow in 3 cycles. The active, or ‘anagen’ phase is just one of the growth cycles. Further treatments are needed in order to ensure all of the hairs are caught in the ‘anagen’ phase.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

Somewhere between 4 and 8 treatments are usually required. Research indicates that on average, somewhere between 20% - 30% of hairs will be in the active growth phase. This means therefore that a minimum of 4 treatments would be required to treat any one area. The exact number will vary depending on where the hair is, what has been done to the hair in the past and, of course, your individual response. Hormonal conditions, such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), may have a significant bearing on how the treatment progresses.

How often will I need to have laser hair removal treatment?

This will depend on the area treated. Clinic trials have shown that for best results, facial hair should be treated every 4 weeks. Bikini lines and legs would be treated somewhere between 6-8 weeks. Generally speaking most areas would be treated every 4-8 weeks.

Is Laser hair removal permanent?

Yes. Actively growing hair follicles will be destroyed. However as with all depilation methods, only actively growing follicles are affected, so dormant or ‘resting’ hair follicles may start to produce hair at a later time. This ‘new growth’ (not re-growth) would need to be treated in the same manner.

Why use Laser Skin Solutions?

What to consider when looking for Laser Hair Removal clinics in Bournemouth:-

  • Is the Laser clinic registered with the Care Quality Commission?
  • Is the laser a medical grade system? (check it is not a small IPL used in Beauty Clinics which will not be powerful enough to get good results.)
  • Do they have a laser, as well as Intense Pulsed Light? (at most clinics, you will not have a choice. At Laser Skin Solutions we have 3 laser hair removal treatment systems. You will be treated with whichever system is most appropriate for you, not because it is the only laser system we have).
  • Do the laser technicians hold the BTEC Laser & Light qualification? (currently the highest national qualification available). We are the only clinic in Bournemouth which insists on staff being trained to this standard.
