FAQS
Many people from their early thirties experience unwanted premature ageing of their skin, largely due to sun damage and other lifestyle factors
Fractional laser skin resurfacing is the most advanced skin rejuvenating procedure available at our award winning Bournemouth Laser Clinic, without the downtime of fully ablative CO2 lasers. It resurfaces by targeting minute sections of the skin with laser light, which creates microscopic holes in the upper most layers of the skin. Fractional laser resurfacing leaves skin looking tighter, due to immediate collagen shrinkage and is followed by long-term stimulation of the fibroblasts which will produce new collagen over the following months.
Fractional laser treatment is excellent for improving:
– photo-damaged skin: roughened, thickened skin, with uneven tone, large pores, excessive secretion of sebum, and loss of elasticity.
– Congested skin / blackheads
– Mild scarring: acne scars, surgical scars, caesarean or c-section scars, traumatic scars and striae or stretch marks.
– Mild static wrinkles
– Dyschromia (uneven skin tone) – results may be variable
– Total skin rejuvenation of facial and non-facial areas.

FAQS
How does fractional laser skin rejuvenation work?
Minute sections of the skin are targeted with laser light, which penetrates into the dermis, to stimulate significant collagen renewal. The surrounding non-affected areas of skin aid the body’s natural recovery process, for dramatic results without significant downtime.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Treatment is suitable for most people and highly recommended for individuals wanting a brighter, more even skin tone, smoother skin texture with improved skin elasticity, a reduction of wrinkles, reduced pore size and improvement to scars (including acne scars) and stretch marks. Due to possible pigment changes in the skin, fractional laser skin rejuvenation is not suitable for dark skin types.
How is the treatment carried out?
The skin is cleansed to remove any dirt or make up. During the treatment the handpiece is moved over the skin delivering tiny microscopic laser beams. Typically treatment time varies depending upon the skin condition and the area being treated, but will range from 10 to 40 minutes. After treatment the skin is cooled with our cryo machine (which blows cold air) and a calming lotion is applied. Protective eyewear must be worn during treatment.
How does the treatment feel?
Our fractional laser treatment is surprisingly comfortable whilst undergoing the procedure. A warm, heating sensation may be felt, but our cryo machine (blowing cold air) is used to minimise any discomfort during treatment. Fractional laser skin resurfacing is considered very tolerable by most people.
What should I expect after treatment?
You will experience a mild sunburn sensation for a few hours after treatment and the skin may be red for 1 to 2 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing at a deep level. Swelling is likely but minimal, and resolves in 2-3 days. As the healing process occurs, your skin may have a bronzed appearance that lasts from 3-10 days, depending on the treatment level. You skin will naturally exfoliate and make flake as if you had mild sunburn.
Are there any side effects?
With fractional laser skin resurfacing you can expect skin redness, swelling and the bronzing appearance as described above. Other adverse effects are rare but can include temporary pigmentation changes to the skin. For this reason, darker skin types are not suitable for this treatment.
How many factional laser treatments are necessary?
Improvement can be seen after the first session, but for optimum results, anywhere between 4 to 6 sessions are often advised. Treatment is carried out every 2 to 6 weeks, depending upon the level of skin rejuvenation required.
Is the treatment effective?
Yes – the most advanced fractional laser system on the market today is used ensuring results are outstanding and long-lasting.
