Rosacea is a progressive, inflammatory vascular disorder that primarily affects the central part of the face and is recognised by facial flushing/blushing, facial redness, pustules and thread veins. It rarely affects the scalp, neck, chest or other areas. In severe cases, particularly in men, the soft tissue of the nose may swell, producing bulbous enlargement know as rhinophyma. Intense Pulsed Light treatment has been shown to be very effective in Rosacea treatment. It works by a process called photothermolysis. This light therapy selectively destroys the abnormal vessels that cause the Rosacea effect, allowing thicker-walled microvessels to be laid down.
