Ingrowing Hair – Causes and Treatments

Ingrowing hairs can occur as a result of a number of reasons. The most common being years of excessive waxing. Waxing long term weakens the hair meaning it no longer has the strength to grow up and out of the hair follicle. As a result, it can grow sideways, leading to ingrowing hairs. People with naturally curly hair can find that the hair can start to grow back on itself, thereby also causing ingrowing hairs.

Once you start getting ingrowing hairs the only way of stopping this from happening is to permanently remove the hair with laser hair removal or electrolysis. Any other hair removal method will be a temporary solution and will most likely make the ingrowing hair problem worse.

There are products on the market like ‘tend skin’ which can be found at leading pharmacies which force the hair to ‘pop up’. Our clients have given us mixed reviews on these. The product seems to work for some, but not for others. If you choose to go down the laser hair removal route to get rid of your ingrowing hairs, then products like ‘tend skin’ can work well in conjunction with laser treatment as it enables us to get to the ingrowing hair and permanently destroy it.
