Sun Damage
Sun Damage Treatment Advice and Assistance
The sun can really take its toll on our skin. Sun damage can cause uneven pigmentation in the form of sunspots or skin dyschromia. It can also cause broken vessels, or thread veins as well as lines and wrinkles and general skin laxity. Whilst we do get a good source of vitamin D from UV rays, the sun is not your friend when it comes to your skin health.
Best practice
Prevention is better than cure. We recommend that all our clients use an spf 30 on a daily basis. 90% of all the damage on our faces occurs from the months of September – May. In general people only think to apply sunscreen during the summer months when UVB, the ray which causes burning (tanning) is at its strongest. However UVA (which gives no tan) is the same strength all year round and goes deep into the dermis (skin), eats your collagen and gives you lines and wrinkles. Our advice at Laser Skin Solutions therefore is to wear a broadspectrum (UVA & UVB) sunscreen for as much of the year as possible. If you are someone who likes to get a bit of colour in the summer, we advise you to do this safely by wearing at least an spf15 and to avoid burning. Wearing an spf 15 will not stop you from tanning.
Treatment options
Laser and IPL treatments can treat uneven pigmentation (although not melasma), thread veins and general skin laxity.
