Glycolic Peels
Glycolic Peels are now considered to be the most advanced form of facial available. The Alpha Hydroxy Acid ‘Glycolic Peel’ is derived from sugar cane and has the smallest molecular structure of the AHA family. It can therefore penetrate into the skin much more effectively than other Alpha Hydroxy Acids. It is not absorbed in to the body and so will not cause any systemic side effects like chemicals in other peels.
A gentle glycolic acid peel can be performed with varying percentages of glycolic acid. At Laser Skin Solutions we use a 40% glycolic acid enabling clients to achieve the skin rejuvenation they desire with minimal side effects. Glycolic acid loosens the ‘glue-like’ bonding or cellular cement that is characteristic of many skin conditions such as ageing, acne, skin discolouration and coarse texture. After just a few weeks your skin will look brighter, clearer and blemish free. Dry skin becomes hydrated and smooth.
Glycolic acid helps reduce cell ‘build-up’ by resurfacing the skin to reveal dramatically softer, smoother texture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and reducing scarring. Clients find Glycolic facials a relaxing experience and experience only mild tingling whilst the acid peel is applied. Mild redness is usually completely gone by the time the hydrating face pack has been removed. It is considered to be a ‘lunchtime’ treatment and clients are able to return to work straight afterwards.

Does the glycolic acid peel hurt?
No. The word ‘acid’ often worries people unnecessarily. During the peel you will experience mild tingling whilst the glycolic acid is applied to your skin. The Jan Marini Glycolic Peel is very much like a normal facial, only with far better, visible results. Clients find it a very relaxing treatment.
How do I prepare for a Jan Marini Glycolic Peel?
This will be explained fully to you at your free skin consultation. You will need to prepare your skin at home for 2 weeks beforehand, with the Jan Marini 5 step homecare programme which includes a 12% glycolic acid wash, as well as a 12% glycolic cream. This will prepare your skin for the 40% glycolic acid solution which is used during treatment.
Do I need a consultation in order to have a glycolic peel?
Yes. The consultation is free and will allow your skin specialist to assess your skin type and suitability, take down important medical information and explain how to prepare your skin for its first glycolic skin peel.

These peels therefore, can penetrate into the skin much more effectively than standard peels. At Laser Skin Solutions we use a 40% glycolic acid peel meaning you get an extremely effective facial with no downtime.
Will I experience any ‘downtime’?
No. Definitely not. A lot of clients ask me this. People have visions of their skin peeling off and having to take time off work. This is not the case. Possible side effects include redness which could last a few hours and in rare cases can last up to 48 hours. Whilst clients at Laser Skin Solutions are always advised of this rare possibility, in reality, any redness which appears once the glycolic acid is applied, soon subsides once the cooling and hydrating mask is applied. Clients leave the clinic feeling refreshed and radiant.
How many glycolic peels should I have?
A course of 6 glycolic peels is normally recommended in order to achieve the desired results. This very much depends however on the skin in question and whether it is very sun-damaged, acne prone or simply needs a bit freshening up. This will be assessed at your free skin consultation.
What results can I expect to see from a glycolic acid peel?
Skin will feel smoother and appear more radiant. It will feel hydrated, soft and blemish-free. With less ‘debris’ lying on the surface of your skin in the form of dead skin cells, it means that products used at home will sink in better and get to work quicker.
